are increased, we must, have regard to the functions and

use of currency".

The Communists have done nothing to improve the real standard of living of the workmen. They have merely deluded them with temporary increases of wages, thereby reducing all industries in the country to bankruptcy, thrown the workmen out of work and depreciated the currency.

A story often told in jest will illustrate my point. A man had a goose, which laid him a golden egg every day. He was advised that he would get a number of golden eggs from her stomach if he killed her. But when she was killed not a single golden egg was found in her. The Communists are in the same position as the man who advised the killing

of the goose.

Therefore our eighth slogan should be,

"Down with the Communists who have deluded our workmen".

Workmen in foreign countries form unions for the purpose of expressing their common views and promoting their common benefit. But the labour unions in China have all been monopolized by the Communists, and the workmen themselves are not permitted to express their views or promote what they consider good for themselves therein. On the contrary they have been compelled to follow in pursuit of wrong and foolish objects. Workmen in foreign countries go on strike at their own initiative and of their own resolution, but in China workmen have been forced by the Communists against their will and under the supervision of pickets to join in strikes and demonstrate in processions. In foreign countries workmen are only required to pay a very small subscription to their union, and such subscriptions are devoted to subsidizing the workmen during strikes and improving their standards of living in ordinary

times.
